The UOS Times reported in March that the Solidarity Against Disability Discrimination (SADD) has announced the end of their protests on February 23. The association had been fighting for the right of mobility of people with physical disabilities and demanding the change in budget policies for their rights for three months by obstructing the subway stations in Seoul. However, after 30 days of the announcement, the members of SADD have resumed the protests at multiple subway stations in citizens’ commute hours again. It is because Yoon Suk-yeol, who won the presidential election, has not introduced any concrete solution of the problems they have been suffering as they stated on April 2. They now use more various methods for their protests such as sit-in demonstrations at the stations or shaving their heads. They even chained themselves up while protesting to reenact the previous demonstration of the people with physical disabilities who fought for the 100-percent installation of elevators at subway stations in 2002.

Because of their continuous demonstration, citizens using public transportation during rush hours are enraged. The SADD apologized for causing inconvenience, but also added that the indifference of the politicians and the government is unbearable.

In the meantime, Lee Jun-seok, chairman of the opposition People Power Party (PPP), has criticized the SADD and its movement. This added fuel to the fire; the association now protests, demanding his apology for inciting hatred of people with physical disabilities as well.

The members hope for the change at least until April 20, which is the Day of People with Disability in Korea.
