As you can see in our last article (http://times.uos.ac.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=10354), Changdeokgung is one of the old palaces of the Joseon Dynasty. Taejong, the 3rd king of Joseon, planned to build a new palace, Changdeokgung, to overcome the unstable political situation. Changdeokgung is famous for its natural beauty because it is constructed without significantly changing the natural topography. Especially, Huwon, the Secret Garden, is known as the most beautiful place in Changdeokgung and is visited by many tourists every day.

The reason why Huwon is called a Secret Garden is because it was a place only for the royal family that no one else could easily enter. Since it was a resting place, you can feel relaxed there. It was also used as a place for training and education. Among the many gazebos in Huwon, the most famous is Buyongjeong. Buyongjeong has elegant beauty itself, but the harmonious scenery of the Buyongji pond in front of Buyongjeong, the circular island in the middle of Buyongji, and the other palaces projected on the surface of Buyongji is truly a rare spectacle. Across from Buyongjeong is Juhapnu, a bi-level palace built during the reign of King Jeongjo. This building is the largest palace in Huwon, and on the first floor of Juhapnu is the famous royal library, Gyujanggak. Gyujanggak was an academic research institute and a key political institution that supported the reform policies of King Jeongjo.

You can see many other beautiful buildings in harmony with nature in Huwon. Even now, Huwon is a secret place that can only be visited at a set time with a guide by those who have made a reservation in advance. You can book a ticket at a website: Changdeokgung Palace Management Office. On-site booking is also possible for 50 people per one time. The UOS Times hopes you can feel the beautiful spring atmosphere at Huwon in Changdeokgung Palace.
