Outdoor events, which had been suspended at Seoul Plaza since the spread of COVID-19, will resume in two years. The temporary screening inspection center installed in the square will be operated until 12 p.m. on the 22 and demolished.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 19th that it will create an outdoor library in Seoul Plaza as daily recovery begins due to the lifting of distance. There is a space where you can borrow books from a mobile bookstore installed in the square and read them on the grass. There are about 3,000 books prepared, and citizens can enjoy a break while sitting on a simple sofa and mat. On April 23, when Seoul Plaza Reading Books’ opens, performances and book talks will also be held.

Starting with this day, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to operate the Seoul Plaza as an outdoor library every Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in spring and autumn. Book exhibitions and performances are also held at all times.

The temporary COVID-19 screening inspection center in Seoul Plaza will end its operation. The Seoul Plaza Inspection Center was reinstalled five months after it was demolished in preparation for the demand for outdoor inspection centers in summer when it entered the fourth pandemic in July last year. It will be demolished again on April 23, nine months after the reinstallation.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government originally planned to reduce and relocate the screening inspection center at Seoul Plaza to nearby Cheonggye Plaza, but is also considering a complete withdrawal as the number of inspections has plummeted recently. Currently, there are less than 100 COVID-19 tests a day at Seoul Plaza.

Following the daily recovery, not only Seoul Plaza, but also all large events and performances in Seoul, including Nodeul Island in the Han River, Olympic Park, and Jamsil Stadium, will resume. Citizens Hall, located underground of Seoul City Hall, will also reopen. The Moonlight Rainbow Fountain of the Han River Banpo Bridge, which had been suspended, also resumed operation this month, and the water fountains of Ttukseom Hangang Park and Yeouido Hangang Park will also operate normally from next month.
