The Department of Environmental Engineering at the University of Seoul (UOS) is selected as a waste-to-energy specialized graduate school supported by the Ministry of Environment and supervised by the Korea Environment Corporation (K-eco). Waste-to-energy is the process of converting waste into energy sources, such as electricity, heat, or fuel. UOS plans to nurture experts in waste-to-energy technology from 2022 to 2027 by receiving 1.5 billion KRW from the government.
UOS waste-to-energy specialized graduate school will be operated by a consortium formed by the School of Environmental Engineering, Department of Mechanical and Information Engineering, Daegu University, and Jeju National University. And it aims to establish a convergence education system that combines AI and IoT technology with waste-to-energy technology, to nurture professionals needed by the industry through industry-academy-linked research, and to improve Korea's waste-to-energy technology to a world-class level by establishing the Waste Energy Research Center.
