Did You Notice? New Changes at UOS

Spring has come to the University of Seoul (UOS). This year, UOS has seen plenty of changes, such as opening new restaurants, renovating cafés, and relocating and even removing some on-campus facilities. There have been many changes for a better campus lives for UOS students. Let’s find out what exactly has changed.

First, Subway®, one of the most popular sandwich franchises, opened a store on the 1st floor of Mirae Hall. Offering quick and convenient meals, the restaurant has been continually packed with students since the day it opened. Another feature of Subway is its numerous options from the type of bread to fillings and condiments to customize your sandwich. In addition, you can choose the cookies when ordering the set menu, which is another reason for Subway’s popularity. It is recommended that you go to Subway and enjoy your choice of sandwich, customized as preferred.

Second, the Office of Student Affairs was relocated from the Student Hall to the International Conference Hall in 21st Century Hall because of the remodeling of the Student Hall. The Office of Student Affairs is responsible for the majority of students’ campus administration. It issues student ID cards, administers scholarships, and manages career and employment programs. Since it is a department that works in close connection with all the issues of students’ college life, the relocation of the office must be duly noted.

Third, the café in the Jeonnong Hall has been renovated. The interior of the café was remodeled to provide students with a better area for relaxing. Additionally, UOS students were hired to work part time at the café. Another feature is the reasonable price. The café is popular not only because of its comfortable interior design, but also because of the affordable prices on its menu. The café is open only on weekdays and is closed on weekends and holidays, so it is wise to check in advance before you plan to visit.

Fourth, the basketball court in front of the student hall was removed because students had complained about its frequent use by outsiders. The school thus decided to remove it and create a new student shelter. The school urges students who want to use the basketball court to use the basketball court at the large playing fields, which is expected to be a new leisure spot for students.

In this way, UOS is striving for a convenient and enjoyable school life for students. The UOS Times interviewed Cho Jeong-Yeon (Dept. of English Language and Literature, ’22) to learn students’ thoughts on the changes at school. She said, “The school seems to be trying to provide more comfortable spaces for students, and it’s especially nice to have a café to relax and study at on campus.” The campus has been crowded with many people since the new facilities were created. The UOS Times hopes that people who were unaware of the remodeling will find new places to go thanks to this article.
