A tragedy occurred on Saturday night. Over 150 people were killed in South Korea because of stampede. The cause of the disaster is not clear, but, the Yongsan Fire Department chief said that immoderate crowd throng is the cause of this deaths. Itaewon is neighborhoods in Seoul full of alley ways. Many young people go pubs and restaurants in Itaewon for a night out. The busiest season is Halloween because the young gathered to enjoy festival. With the relieve of COVID-19, inordinately many people overcrowded narrow and slope streets. More than 100,000 people were there. Because of loud music sounds and the crowd, it was not easy to keep order and people push one another. So, the horrible stampede happened. The alleys were densely packed, and people were unable to evacuate. Even though, the police and fireman arrive, it was not easy to rescue people. Because Itaewon is located in alleyways ambulances could not to enter rapidly. Also too many people were under the crowds, paramedics were not able to pull out the injured. Many people died of cardiac arrest and abdominal distention. Photos on social media showed the scene that bodies are sprawled on the street. Most of the dead were teenager or 20s. Majorities of the casualties were female. Because they are relatively small in statures and light. Also, twenty foreigners died, including citizens of China. Iran and Norway. It is presumed that the slope on the street and slippery road surface waste and drinks might aggravate the accident. President Yoon held an emergency meeting and declared a period of national mourning. The number of deaths counted to date is 154. This tragedy is reported all over the world and a wave of condolences is brewing.
