As of last month, huge tech companies such as Apple, Netflix, and Amazon have evaporated more than 3 trillion USD over the past 12 months. As a result, big tech companies have started to reduce their workforce because of the worldwide economic depression. According to Layofffyi, which shows the financial status of global big tech companies, Amazon has already fired 136,000 people worldwide as of the 21st. Twitter also fired about 3,700 employees. This situation raises questions about especially a certain social media platform: Twitter

The number of “heavy users” on Twitter (users who access Twitter for more than six days a week and write more than three to four times a week) has been rapidly decreasing since the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a report quoted by a Twitter researcher by Reuters, these heavy users are less than 10 percent of all users. In addition, Twitter lost more users since Ellon Musk took over. “Every platform has a life cycle from growth to decline,” said Dr. Natalie Pang, a new media expert at the National University of Singapore. “This is mainly because new platforms replace the existing ones.” Meanwhile, Dr. Lianluisia, a digital media expert at the University of Sheffield in the UK, believes that Twitter is showing signs of a decline that cannot be hidden.
