The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism assigned April 12 for Library Day following the revision of the Library Act, which took effect on December 8, 2022. Therefore, it was the first Library Day last Tuesday. In addition, Library Week is also running for a week from April 12 to 18.

 

     Library Day aims to spread socio-cultural values and promote the use of libraries by achieving free access to knowledge and culture and national harmony through books.

 

      On the 12th, the events were held to commemorate the first Library Day in various places. A ceremony was held at the National Library of Korea, which included a ceremony to declare Library Day, awards for people of national merit in libraries and related fields, and performances by mixed classical musicians of the disabled and non-disabled.

 

      In addition, the Library Camp was operated which is a civil participation event to increase interest and understanding of the library at Gwanghwamun Square playground from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. People could enjoy the exhibition, performance, and 4-cut photo events there. It especially drew attention by preparing a recording booth where people can directly participate in the process of making audiobooks for the visually impaired.

 

        At the same time, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has been running Library Week, which has been in progress since 1965, from April 12 to 18. Under the theme of “Library that Lights Up the Dark”, various Library Project events are being presented with 18 libraries nationwide, including Chuncheon City Library and Majeon Library.

 

    The BOOM-UP Project was also carried out to vigorously promote the value and necessity of libraries. To publicize Library Day, It collaborates with bookstores across the country and influencers and produces publicity images containing the meaning and value of Library Day.

 

     Moreover, various events were held in libraries across the country to commemorate the first Library Day.
