Recently, three children and three adults at a Christian elementary school in Tennessee were murdered at a mass shooting. The victims were targeted randomly while the 28 year old killer, Audrey Hale was being treated for an unspecified emotional disorder. The police found out that the firearms used in the incident were legally bought from seven different gun stores. While the killer’s parents believed that Hale did not possess any weapons, it turned out she had been keeping the weapons within the house. Moreover, the released police body-camera footage drew attention as the police confronted and killed the attacker as soon as they heard the gunfire. This prompted people to recognize how well handled the situation was contrary to the Texas school shooting, where it took more than an hour for the police to confront the murderer who killed 19 children and two teachers.

However, the Nashville law enforcement is currently condemned for failing to recognize the warnings that Hale sent through social media before the attack, claiming “Something bad is about to happen.” Hale messaged her former middle school basketball teammate that he would hear from her on the news after her death. Another friend of the killer claimed that the police failed to recognize the urgency of the report she had filed about Hale. Moreover, the increase in gun violence has led to the political debate on gun laws. With the United States currently dealing with the sharp rise in mass shootings, the number of gun related deaths rose to 44,290 from 33,599 in three years. Despite it being difficult to track down the exact cause of such a phenomenon, the increase in gun ownership and society stress levels are what experts claim to be the major contributing factors.
