The word “Jiokchul” means tough way to work in Korean. It is a compound of “jiok” meaning hell and “chul” which means a subway. This term is born since the morning subway in Korea is notorious for its dense commuters. Due to this dangerous environment, several safety accidents have occurred these days. Gimpo Goldline, powered by Unattended Trend Operation (UTO), is a two-car subway. Since the opening of Gimpo Goldline, approximately 150 accidents have been reported. 61 accidents were caused by train and platform congestion, such as losing consciousness while standing or feeling dizzy. This is because people going to take the train push each other even though there are already many passengers inside. The people using Gimpo Goldline in rush hour say that they feel pain due to the strong pressure of passengers trying to force their way in. However, since commuters and students must arrive at work and school, they get stuck on the subway even if it is dangerous. Recently, there have been lots of accidents suffering from breathing difficulties among subway users, Gimpo City and Gyeonggi-do have come up with a solution to alleviate congestion. Gimpo City announced the plan to put five trains on the Gimpo Goldline next year. As an emergency measure, buses will be used as a countermeasure. Six additional buses are going to be added to a 3000 route, which is an alternative route of Gimpo Goldline.
