Many college students have finished their semesters. A lot of students are making travel plans for the summer vacation. However, the plans should be made in consideration of the start of the rainy season. Though it rained for several days continuously this week, the real rainy season is expected to begin in earnest. Considering that the average rainy season began on June 19, it starts about a week late. It does not continue to rain during the rainy season, which averages 30 to 35 days. However, the Korea Meteorological Administration recommended preparing in advance. In particular, it urged thorough preparation as it is likely to rain a lot from the beginning.

First of all, there was a big incident during the rainy season last year, and many parts of Seoul were submerged due to semi-underground flooding. This year, there is a need to prevent this from happening repeatedly. There are several semi-underground houses near the University of Seoul, so if there is an intensive heavy rain forecast, people should check the drain in front of the house and remove the garbage so that the water can escape well. Furthermore, landslides are also a subject of caution. When people go to a mountain area for summer vacation, they should check the refuge in advance and look at the forecast carefully. In addition, if there is a valley nearby, they should be careful because the water can suddenly rise and cause accidents. As such, it is necessary to prepare for the summer rainy season in daily life. The UOS Times looks forward to students coming back to UOS after a safe and enjoyable summer vacation.
