The UOS Times, a part of the university press, is in charge of publishing English magazines. The UOS Times’s primary readership comprises international students on campus. Student reporters cover news such as school information, Korean culture and society. Starting from the second semester of 2023, The UOS Times will undergo various changes.

Introduction of Newsletters

The UOS Times is introducing newsletters for the first time. These will be issued at an average interval of two to three weeks, and carry more campus-related news than before. Previously, the press would bring out two offline magazine publications and one online publication every semester. However, the second semester of 2023 onwards, the online articles will transform into coverage articles on the university, and the offline English magazine publication will be published once, instead of twice, every semester. These newly introduced newsletters will be delivered to international students via email. The articles therein will also be posted on The UOS Times website, for those who prefer reading newsletters and articles directly, without having to access their emails.

We expect the introduction of newsletters to deliver news accurately and efficiently to its dedicated readers. A student reader, who has long been interested in The UOS Times English articles, said that the introduction of newsletters would make it easier for readers to access details. She also expressed satisfaction with the newsletter system as it would provide her more timely campus information.

Changes on Instagram

Moreover, The UOS Times plans to change its method of operation on Instagram, to focus on Korean students. Previously, two to three straight articles were uploaded on Instagram each week. This addressed the relative lack of timeliness of online and offline magazines. However, the introduction of newsletters is expected to regularize this to some extent. Thus, from the second semester of 2023, we plan on changing its target audience on Instagram to Korean students. English expressions or idioms will be introduced, and simple quizzes will be presented for readers. By collecting the answers to these quizzes, we plan to conduct exchange activities between Korean and international respondents on campus.

Opening Audio News

Furthermore, The UOS Times plans to launch Naver audioclip, to produce audio news on the published articles. Coverages on the campus will be recorded and uploaded on the audioclip, so that those readers who are unable or unwilling to read can listen to the articles. The changes on Instagram, and introduction of audio news, are intended to ensure that all students at the university can access and enjoy the articles, without disparity.

If readers wish to convey any inconvenience or question regarding these changes, they may contact The UOS Times via Instagram (@theuostimes7), or email (theuostimes7@gmail.com). We request our  readers to pay attention to, and participate in the diverse engagements, including newsletters and coverage articles, as well as the English magazine that will feature deeper and more profound content, and the new Instagram. Stay tuned!
