Students can hear music or radio as they walk on the campus of the University of Seoul (UOS) thanks to the work of the broadcasting station at UOS, the Jeonnong Broadcasting Station (JBS). JBS fulfills the responsibilities of media organizations by showing places that people have not seen, telling them what they have not heard, and clearing away the veil of untruths.

History of JBS

JBS began broadcasting in 1959 as the Voice of Jeonnong (V. O. J.). In 1977, it was promoted to a broadcasting station and confirmed as the Jeonnong Broadcasting Station (J.B.S.). In addition, since the first broadcast festival was held in 1972 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of its foundation, the festival has been held every May. It opens the beginning of college life together by producing a “Welcome Broadcast for Freshmen” and transmitting it during freshman orientation. Since 2004, PDP TV has been installed in the student center and video broadcasts have been played at the school. Through various educational programs and press releases, it has become a pleasure that contains the smiles of students and provides information before anyone else.

What Does JBS Do?

JBS produces various video programs covering culture, entertainment, and news, and uploads them to its YouTube channel. In addition, the radio broadcasts are transmitted through campus speakers three times a day, and JBS NEWS broadcasts campus events and incidents once a month. Moreover, new video and radio programs are organized every semester. In JBS, which consists of a PD, engineers, and announcers, the PD mainly plans and oversees the program, with announcers appearing on broadcast shows and engineers in charge of editing. According to the JBS broadcasting director, often receive requests to create videos from external organizations, such as Seoul City and Dongdaemun-gu, as well as from intramural ones. It is currently working on editing the Humanities of Hope, a project to offer cultural and educational opportunities for low-income families and the homeless.

Plans for the second semester of JBS

In the second semester in 2023, JBS plans to report school news as accurately as possible and broadcast interesting programs. JBS receives lunch radio song requests every Thursday and recruits students as guests for video programs. Moreover, starting this semester, anonymous information is received through open chat. If there is anything that the students want to inform others about through JBS, please feel free to report it. Furthermore, JBS offers various viewer participation programs, including radio quiz prizes and votes. For updates, follow JBS on Instagram.
