On Nov. 22, 2012, the UOS started Sidaein Nanumteo (a sharing place for UOS members), a permanent recycling shop, on the first floor of Jeonnong Hall. This is a part of the Green Campus Project of the UOS, which started in June 2011. The shop was established to spread awareness of protecting the environment, of reusing resources, sharing and to help UOS members put these into practice. By making donations, UOS members can accumulate green points on their student IDs or electronic meal cards and use them in the cafeteria, convenient stores, bakeries and cafes that are located on campus.

For five days, from Jan. 14 to 18, an event was held at Sidaein Nanumteo where books, clothes and accessories were sold at half price. Furthermore, on Jan. 31, it has been announced that every Thursday will be set as ‘The Day to Donate Recyblables.’ Students can donate and buy recycled things every weekday, but Thursdays were specially chosen to hopefully help vitalize donations.

From November 2012 to the second week of February, 1,499 donations were made at the Nanumteo. From the donations, 320 products were sold and 910,000 won worth of profits were made. About 95 percent of these donations were made by UOS faculty. The rest were made by students and Dongdaemun-gu residents. Compared to the rate of the donations made by the faculty, the student rate of donations were far too low. More participation is needed from students. The profits from selling these donated things will be used as scholarships to students.

Sidaein Nanumteo is planning to hold ‘half-price events’ and a marketplace for sharing starting this semester. Moreover, it is making efforts to put information about this sharing place in the Dongdaemun-gu newspaper so that local residents can participate in this good deed. Sidaein Nanumteo will also promote their events through UOS website, posters on UOS buildings and through the Student Council to make more UOS members participate in recycling and using recycled products.
