The current Music Hall is the only building on UOS campus that students in the Dept. of Music can use for practice. The shortage of classrooms in the building has caused inconvenience for students. Not only is the building outworn, but it is also small to accommodate an increasing number of students. Currently, there are about 150 students waiting for the construction of more spaces where they can practice and take a lecture. The absence of an appropriately sized concert hall is also a problem.

Students and faculty members from the department have been proposing the construction of a new building for a long time. This year, Seoul City has allotted 3,650,000 won of its total budget for 2014 towards construction of the new music building at last. In addition, there is an ongoing donation that encourages people to send in a donation to build the music hall. The name of donors is going to be engraved in appreciation of their contribution. Chang Hae-won (Dept. of Music, ’12) told The UOS Times about the hardships students from Dept. of Music have been going through.

She also pointed out that there is no rest space where students can gather between lectures. Like Chang, many students from the Dept. of Music are hoping that UOS no longer delays the construction and recognises these issues in the near future.
