On Jan. 29, 2015, graduation qualifications of UOS were revised. There is no big difference in English scores students need to acquire before graduation: TOEIC score of minimum 800 was required of those majoring in the Department of English Language and Literature; 650 was the minimum score for Engineering majors.

However, there are new graduation qualifications that freshmen students need to pay attention to. Freshmen students of 2015 are obliged to take courses under Community Service. Ever since the adoption of half-price tuition in 2012, there have been voices calling for the community involvement of UOS students. As a public university, and a beneficiary from the policies of the Seoul City, students of UOS are expected to give back to society the support they received from reduced tuition fee.

Kim Seung-min (Dept. of International Relations, ,14) believes such revised graduation qualification would help UOS students learn a sense of social responsibility. He added making the Community Service course mandatory for graduation would ultimately result in a better reputation of UOS. The revised qualification is receiving positive responses from tax payers of Seoul. Park Se-jun (Seoul resident, 43) from Dongdaemun-gu said he welcomes this policy of UOS and that such change would encourage other universities to increase community services of students.
