On February 29, the UOS held its 2008 entrance ceremony for freshmen in the Main Auditorium. Many honored guests including Oh Sae-hoon, mayor of Seoul and Lee Hae-kyu, President of the Alumni Association as well as Yun Woo-won, President of the School Supporters Association participated in this entrance ceremony. Greeting the 90th anniversary, Lee Sang-bum, President of the UOS made a congratulatory address to new students of the UOS.


UOS to Make Training Center in Gangchon

A training center for UOS students, staffs and alumni will be made in Gangchon. The center will include sleeping accommodation for 800, educational facilities for 600 and subsidiary facilities such as a dining room, a seminar room, a esplanade etc. "I want UOS students to think of the Gangchon training center as second campus, because it is a space for student training." said Kim Keon-tak of the Office of Planning and Development.

The Completion of the Information Technology Building

The Information Technology Building with one story below ground, six above ground and an entire area of 11,415m2 is completed and several departments and institutes have started to move in. The Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Dept. of Computer Science will mostly use this building. The Institute of Information Technology and the Institute of Quantum Information Processing and Systems also moved in and will use this building too. In the building, there are the newest institutions and facilities, including multimedia classrooms, a student lounge and so on. From this semester on UOS students will be regularly attending lectures in this building.



The Start of University Life: Orientation

From February 26 to 29, an orientation was held in Daemyung Vivaldi Park in Hongcheon. 1700 freshmen and 900 sophomores participated in the event. On the first day, a welcome party was held and UOS clubs performed. The performance was successful in drawing a big response from UOS students. The second day was taken up with special programs held by each college. Lee Jeong-hwo (Dept. of Korean Language and Literature `08) said, "I felt the second night of the orientation was wonderful." And Oh Yeong-il (Dept. of Philosophy `08) said "I felt passion for my new life in university. It will be a very precious memory for me."



MMS Service Begins

On March, the UOS launched its MMS service. This is the library SMS message service. This means that if you search for a book on the library site, you can receive an SMS message which contains the information on the book. So, you don`t need to write down the book number, instead you can find the book by the information which you receive. It is expected that a lot of students will be able to use the library more easily.
