After election, NEWS@UOS had an interview with Joh Young-hoon, the 45th student council president. He said, “I thought that students rights and conveniences are a duty of student council and a reason for their existence. As I said before, I’ll do my best to increase recognition of the UOS and rank high in the evaluation of the JoongAng Ilbo, by reinforcing foreign language education.

Also during a one-year term as student council president, I’ll try to open the UOS official student homepage to offer useful information and to communicate with UOS students. Finally, in reducing wastage in the budget, student council will try to make a budget for several parts that really need budgeting. So ‘Sidaegonggam’ will do our best to keep our word”.

On November 27, as a result of counting the votes, ‘Sidaegonggam’ campaign team won the election with the turnout of 52.51% and the approval rating of 57.86%. Through two weeks (from November 7 to 24) of campaign term and three days (from November 25 to 27) of polling, the 45th student council’s president and vice-president were elected.

After passing the candidate appraisal of November 6, two candidates, ‘Live&’ and ‘Sidaegonggam’ finally ran the election. It’s the first time that two candidates run the election since 1988’s 35th students council election, because of that reason students of the UOS showed a lot of interest in this election.

The ‘Sidaegonggam’ campaign team put forward Joh Young-hoon (School of Business Administration ’04) who served as the 12th school of business administration’s president, as presidential candidate and Kim Young-seok (Department of International Relations ’04) who served as the 14th department of international relations’ president, as vice-presidential candidate. While the ‘Live&’ campaign team nominated Kim Dong-hyeon (Department of Materials Science and Engineering ’03) who served as the 16th department of materials science and engineering’s president, as presidential candidate and Kim Yong-hwan (Department of Urban Administration ’07) who undertook the role of 44th student council director of policy department, as vice-presidential candidate. During this campaign term, different from the last election, two campaign teams competed with each other in various ways; making tours of the campus, distributing pamphlets, going campaigning in lecture rooms, etc.

On November 21, a debate with the two campaign teams was held under the sponsorship of NEWS@UOS, UOS Press and JBS. In this debate the two campaign teams first discussed and asked each other questions then UOS students had time to ask candidates about their pledges. The two teams argued about the freezing of tuition fees, opening of the UOS official student web-site, cleanty financial management etc.

After a long campaign term, the UOS students finally picked the new student council president and vice-president. Recently student interest in student council decreased. Only a small number of students know about the student council’s election pledges. Besides, relations with student council are not quite smooth, so it’s not quite right to say that the student council have represented the students of the UOS until now. Of this election, Yeh Eun-bi (Department of International Relations ’08), one of UOS students, said, “In this election, I was able to compare the two teams’ pledges and saw their different campaigns. If ‘Sidaegonggam’ team, the 45th student council, will keep their pledges, I could give a perfect score”. It’s important that they keep their word and don’t break students trust. So ‘Sidaegonggam’ campaign team, the 45th student council, has to be the student council of the UOS, by the UOS, for the UOS.
