Chuseok, the Korean traditional holiday that people prepare foods and fruits for ancestral rite has passed in the last 5 days. It comes in every Aug. 15, the Lunar calendar. Wait, what is the Lunar calendar? As we can see from its name, the Lunar calendar is a calendar that is made by the movement of the moon. Foreign people may not familiar with this concept because most of the countries use the Solar Calendar these days. However, in Korea, we use the Lunar calendar for some holidays, including Chuseok and the Lunar New Year’s Day, and etc. The Lunar calendar is somehow very useful in navigation on sea, harvesting crops, and fisheries due to the movement of the moon are critically affective in the ebb and the flow.
Fun fact: Some old people in Korea still use the Lunar calendar to calculate their birthday!
